An Inter-Dimensional Get Rich Quick Scheme: A First Look At ‘By The Night #1’

By The Night #1

Friendship is magic.

I especially like seeing those oddball friendships written up as the weird stuff hits the fans. Brownie points if real life problems and expectations come into play remixed by the strange and fantastic.

By The Night #1

Look this is the synopsis we’re been sent about this mini series:

“Aspiring documentarian (and actual chemistry major) Jane has recently reunited with her former best friend Heather, amateur urban explorer. When a trip into an abandoned industrial building leads them to another world, their plan begins to unfold—create a documentary about the world and become filthy, filthy rich. The other side of the portal is filled with monsters, magic and a chance for a whole new life. All they have to do is step through…”

Come June 2018 Eisner Award-nominated writer John Allison (Giant Days) and artist Christine Larsen (Adventure Time) have tag teamed to bring us a 12 issue comic series about two friends “discovering the perfect inter-dimensional get-rich-quick scheme”. On weight of names along, Allison had my eyeballs as Giant Days has always proved to be a comic that surprised me, had me laughing until my belly hurt and pondering about the strangest of things like accidentally overmedicating on cold meds and thinking about the significance of pigeons our society. Harvey Award Nominated Larsen’s work on Adventure Time is certainly noteworthy yet it is her body of work of comics of everything from ogres to mermaids to snake ladies that makes me excited to what creatures she’ll put to paper next.

By The Night looks to be about rekindling old friendships, finding your place in the world, er galaxy, homecomings and figuring out life. Throw in some weird, some strange. Oh, and that sweet, sweet, sweet cash needed to make your dreams come true with a side bonus of being able to quit your day job.

“I love a good spooky tale, especially in the hands of folks as deft and funny as John and Christine. This is already one of my favorite series to read each month, and I know it’ll be one of yours too.”- Shannon Watters, Senior Editor, BOOM! Studios

The first issue of Out By Night drops June 13th
