Well, we knew this was coming. The papers haven’t even completely rested on the ground from DC’s big movie release news a couple of weeks ago and Marvel sends the comic book nerdsphere into another hurricane. Announcing movies for new and familiar characters all the way through 2019, you know the crew had some thoughts about that.

This week, Marvel Studios hosted an event this week in Los Angeles where they announced titles and projected release dates for upcoming movie projects from now until 2020. The announcement came during the aftermath of DC’s somewhat lukewarm list of upcoming films including Wonder Woman, Cyborg and Shazam! starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as Black Adam. While there were films among those announced that received an understandable surplus of attention such as the long awaited Black Panther and female-lead Captain Marvel (the Carol Danvers version….we’re super excited about that, by the way), Marvel also announced plans to use its 20th film to introduce us to a whole new facet of the Cinematic Universe. November 2, 2018 will have movie fans getting acquainted with The Inhumans.

Inhumans (1)

In a statement issued by Marvel Studios President, Kevin Feige, he says “We really do believe the Inhumans can be a franchise or a series of franchise unto themselves. They have dozens of powers and an amazing social structure. With our 20th movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, we wanted to continue to refine what that universe is about.”

The Inhumans comic tells the tale of a secret kingdom of superpowered beings who descend from humans enhanced by alien species in the early days of mankind. The kingdom is lead by their silent patriarch, Black Bolt whose mere whisper could lay waste to entire mountains. So far, there’s been no announcements as far as casting goes, but Vin Diesel has hinted at some involvement with the project. Whether or not that means we’ll see an appearance from Groot, his character from this year’s smash hit, Guardians of the Galaxy, still remains a mystery. However, we’ll have up to date, additional details for you as they become available to us.
