Scarlet Spiders #1 Review

Writer: Michael Costa
Artist: Paco Diaz

Scarlet Spiders has the clone (ultimate Jessica Drew, Earth 616 Kaine, & [his own dimension] Ben Reily) on a doe or die …well mostly die, mission to take down the cloning technologies that the inheritors have access too. Jessica Drew gives the majority of the narration for this issue. Jessica is well versed in espionage, we have her taking note of her surroundings in this world of clones, as well as the traits and personalities of Kaine and Bein Reily. Diaz has great displays in his art show casing how different each of their fighting styles are as Costa has Drew commentating on the different ways they use their powers which are mostly the same.

At times it feels like Ben Reily is the leader of the group but it seems to be Jessica that gets differed to a lot especially since she is the plan expert. If this team were the 4 horseman, then leader wise Ben Reily would be Ric Flair and Jessica Drew would be Arn Anderson (Kaine is Dean Malenko in case you were wondering). Ben Reily provides the humor and morale, Kaine provides the muscle, and Drew comes off as the strategist. This is a good team to watch throw down together. Where Costa and Diaz take this side mission of spider-verse will be interesting to see.
