Cardcaptor Sakura is Returning in June!

“CARDCAPTORS! A MYSTIC ADVENTURE! CARDCAPTORS! A QUEST FOR ALL TIME!” That English dub opening was the jam, and about a month ago Kodansha’s Nakayoshi(a shoujo manga magazine) announced that CLAMP, an all-female Japanese manga artist group, is going to publish a new Cardcaptor Sakura manga. At first it seemed like it would only be a one-shot, but it has been confirmed in the April issue of Kodansha’s Nakayoshi magazine that it will be a full ongoing series set after the original!

More details can be found here via Anime News Network.

The manga will follow Sakura in her first year of junior high school where some shit immediately starts to go down. The original manga’s run lasted from May 1996 all the way to June 2000. That’s right, this year is actually the 20th anniversary of Cardcaptor Sakura! Can you believe it’s been 20 whole years since she first graced the manga pages with her cute ferocity? We’re getting so old. There was a project for the 20th anniversary that was teased earlier this year but the real surprise is that it’s an ongoing series and everyone is hyped up about it.

If you were watching anime or just watching the oh-so-wonderful Kids WB block then you know all about Sakura. “Cardcaptors,” as it was called on Kids WB, was one of the shows that was primarily “for girls” but ended up crossing over in a major way. I went from “what is this girly ass show?” to yelling the theme song and making sure I was in front of my TV whenever it aired. I had so much Cardcaptor memorabilia that I could have been a Cardcaptor myself (and still think I deserve to be one). If you don’t know about Cardcaptor Sakura, use this opportunity to seek out some manga or watch the old anime. Right now there’s no word about this new manga adaptation getting an anime adaptation, but if it’s popular enough then who knows what could happen. This new manga is sure to bring up some nostalgic memories so get your Clow Cards because it’s time for Sakura to capture our hearts once again.

Lover of Hamtaro and an eater of Oreos. Careful with what you say about me because I might throw it "Right Back Atcha." That's just a Kirby joke. I speak in references and I'm the awkward guy in the corner at a party. Hit me up if you wanna talk about magical girls in a totally appropriate way.
