Ten Grand #11 Review

Writer: J. Michael Straczynski
Artist: C.P. Smith

That Ten Grand back! Joe Fitzgerald in the trenches of hell pulling out the ace on the servants of Big L aka Lucifer. We saw last issue that Joe was a step ahead of the game. The trump card was Joe pulling out all the extras from the bone thugs & harmony “cross roads” video from Laura. Hell’s plan has backfired, the angels were ready for the treachery. Heaven used Laura as a trojan horse first and is currently going around collecting bodies galore. This issue deals with Joe having to explain how he knew Heaven was playing them. Joe talks about symbols he saw previously, who he knew used them and why they would appear in such coincidences as the girl that hired him to begin with. Why certain demons didn’t know certain things as well as the phrasing of certain key people he met thus far.

This issue deals a lot with the detective work Joe was putting in, proving he isn’t as dumb as the angels thought. We then see Joe exact that revenge in hell. That revenge he been waiting for strategically as well. A great touch on the writing and art is how Joe talks about strangling his wife’s killer (what it looks like to him) but to everyone else they see Joe as an angel with a halo fighting a demon. That was something I wasn’t actually expecting. along with the power of love playing a crucial role.

Also you’d think Joe exacting his revenge on the man that ruined his life would be enough, but it isn’t. Joe said he’s got one more issue to handle. Then stares at the angel that was playing him this whole time. Oh, oh shit is about to get too surreal up in here.
