writer: Rick Remender; art: Matteo Scalera As the first amazing arc comes to a close, Black Science throws multiple twists that both brings an unexpected outcome and a surprising set up for the continuation of the series. It’s hard to give a comprehensive review without revealing major spoilers, but the confrontation between Grant and the saboteur Kadir last the duration of the issue while taking multiple iterations and resolutions. There are so many moments in this issue that are subtly superb that they often get overlooked before the next cool thing is happening. As usual, the art is top notch, giving a great balance between the action and the dialogue, especially with so many things going on in the background.
If there is a flaw with this issue (and the book at large) it’s that it focuses so much on the primary characters, that the secondaries, especially Grant’s children have very little depth to them. This does seem that it is going to change in the next arc, so we’ll see how that plays out. Black Science finishes its first part of the story and won’t be back till July, so now would be a perfect time to get caught it. It really is one of the best books out there….
