After three years without an in-person BlizzCon, Blizzard returned to Anaheim with an ambitious Opening Ceremony. So buckle up as I take you on a ride through all that went down at BlizzCon 2026. We got a new Diablo. We got a new StarCraft…sort of. We got an entirely new version of World of Warcraft that plays into the millennial need for nostalgia for comfort. Warcraft III received its first new campaign in more than two decades, and somehow, in the year of our Lord 2026, Heroes of the Storm walked onto a BlizzCon stage with a new Hero and to be honest, I forgot the game existed. The fascinating part isn’t how much Blizzard announced. It’s when we’re getting all of it. Some of this stuff is playable right now. Some arrives within weeks. Then Blizzard looked us directly in the eyes and announced Diablo V for 2029 and a new StarCraft for 2030. I’m excited, but please understand that 2030 currently sounds like a fake year. 2030 is far enough away that I feel like this announcement should’ve come with a ‘Save the Date’. Thankfully, there’s plenty happening between now and then. Warcraft III said “I Didn’t Hear No Bell” One of BlizzCon’s biggest surprises involved one of Blizzard’s oldest games. Warcraft III Reforged: Forsaken Kingdom is the first official new Warcraft III campaign in more than 23 years.
