Captain America #15 Review

Writer: Ta-Nehisi Coates / Artist: Jason Masters / Marvel Comics Captain America returns to its roots of espionage and investigation with issue #15. The issue starts right out of the gate with the murder of a police officer, and it quickly becomes clear that this will be the focus of the story. Soon, Steve catches wind of it and, even though he has bigger priorities with the Daughters of Liberty, makes it a personal mission to investigate. This run has been strong overall, as Ta-Nehisi Coates has played up Steve Rogers uncertainty in the world and his place in it just as many of us in the outside world feel the same. Steve no longer has the backing of his country and cracks are starting to surface in the relationship he has with Sharon noticeably shaken by this, so he’s in need of a win. While the art does a good job of showing the passage of time and scenery, it’s not as impactful when you look back on the issue and realize that it feels a bit spread out. The story that’s told in 22 pages could’ve likely been told in 12 so that we’d be further along. But the pacing will hopefully balance out in future issues as Steve and the Daughters get closer to finding the one person they can punch hard enough to make everything better.
