Convergence: Green Lantern / Parallax #1

Writer: Tony Bedard / Art: Ron Wagner, Bill Reinhold / DC Comics Convergence is upon us and we see how it is taking place in the world of the Green Lantern mythos. We revisit Hal Jordan post-Coast-City up in flames and Parallax having been let loose off the chains. Kyle Rayner visits him to remind him daily that what happened wasn’t entirely his fault.

The heart of this issue revolves around a dome having gone up to protect the city (which cut off the powers of everyone) for about a year but now it is down and the only way for the city to survive is if Kyle fights a representative from a rival domed city. This is a quick read and the art work feels very nostalgic. I’m not sure if that was the intention of Wagner and Reinhold to give us a true throw back to the 90’s era where Jordan was vilified but it worked nonetheless. Now I’m trying real hard not to be biased on this whole Convergence story line (I’m trying so hard to hide my Come on now B face). This story doesn’t feel like it is going to have a long lasting effect on the Green Lantern mythos and is truly just a bridge to Convergence, that being said as a stand alone the issue is rather ehhhhhh. Perhaps part two will fair better and be more interesting….
