Harley Quinn and Power Girl #3 Review

Writers: Amanda Conner, Jimmy Palmiotti, Justin Gray / Artist: Stephane Roux / DC Comics In the third issue of this off-shoot series, Harley Quinn and Power Girl come face-to-face with Vartox, who looks like he’s been taken straight out of a 1970’s porn flick. While Conner and Palmiotti were regular contributors to the storylines of the two characters, Gray is working with the pair for this spin-off that tells the story of what all happened during two panels in Harley Quinn #13. Harley Quinn and Power Girl #3 is a pleasure to read, just like the first two. The entire run plays out like a parody of the old science fiction adventures you used to catch on television way before I was every born. It tastefully includes all of the clichés from decades past such as macho love gurus with hairy chests and the heavy, open use of drugs. The first issues did a solid job of establishing this world of free love and expression. But issue #3 is where things start to come to a head with PG and HQ taking on Vartox himself. As always, the art is great and brings a new world to life and the characters are well-established. Its satire of real-life issues such as representation and gender equality are always a treat. The only sad thing is that the space adventures of Harley Quinn and Power Girl eventually have to come to an end.
