Sex Criminals #20 Review

Dare I say, it’s the end of an era as the divide between Jon and Suze reaches its end game. Our main characters take a back seat this year for our supporting characters as Professor Kincaid gives Dave the read of the week after the sexual encounter. The breakdown of that shit is genius. We readers know it takes a lot of Kincaid to climax/come/bust/Orville Redenbacher, as Dave apologizes for not being able to do so despite wanting. Kincaid puts that psych degree to use as she breaks down why Dave didn’t “want” to, but felt he “needed” to. I won’t spoil the mental chess of that scene, just know that Fraction lays bars. It’s probably my favorite scene of this issue until we get to that ending. I love a book that can keep you engaged with dialogue, and Fraction and Zdarsky know what they’re doing as we engage in so much dialogue about sex, psychology, gender norms, and feminism. Then when we get back to “Somebody gots to go” FM? Ric Flair wooooooo!

Watch the words-that-aren’t-spoken moment (shades of season 2, episode 1 of Insecure when Issa and Lawrence said their goodbyes) between Suze and Jon as they fork in the road and Jon decides to go cash in against Kegel Face and her goons. Zdarsky drew that grand finale something gorgeous…
