Spider-Man and the X-Men #3 Review

Writer: Elliot Kalan / Artist: Marco Failla / Marvel Kalan took Spider-Man and company to the world of Mojo this week. We got to see Peter Parker on his late-night show-hosting skills as the students played the part of the house band and Eye Boy was running the production side for Mojo. Yep, that’s our “Wait, wtf?” moment right there letting us know shit ain’t right. The sinister Six(ty six) come out once Spider-Man starts to remember they’ve all been abducted by Mojo because he ain’t about that hosting life (and wouldn’t dream of competing with Jimmy Fallon’s ratings). This issue is the most out-there issue yet. We’ve got Spider-Man assuming Eye Boy was the spy but as it turns out, it was “The Chameleon,” and he kept trying to fool Spider-Man throughout the issue, impersonating other students in a Bugs Bunny-type cartoon fashion each time he was discovered. This issue felt like it was the longest to read through. I enjoyed the humor but the team running amok in Mojo world really came across as filler for the most part, and I was already ready for the next issue halfway through.

I’m hoping we get to see Parker take on the role that Wolverine had with his students and perhaps interact with more kids aside from the ones that are currently assigned to him, the ones that are deemed troubled. I still got the high hopes for this book, man….
