The Mighty Thor #18 Review

Writer: Jason Aaron / Artist: Russell Dauterman / Marvel Comics If you’re reading this, I’m actually a little disappointed in you. Because, to be honest, if you’re wondering what I think about The Mighty Thor, you can’t be reading. Nobody who’s reading this book needs to know of my undying love for this series to understand just how lit this book is. Issue #18 picks up with the Asgard/Shi’ar War raging in full swing with all of Asgard’s best (with a special guest) dogpiling the most pompous gods I’ve ever read about in comics. The action in this issue along with the team dynamic is definitely entertaining, but the real icing on the cake is the twist in the second half of the book. The great thing about this book is that Jason Aaron taps into what we’ve always loved about comics over the years. Aaron realizes that he has a whole universe worth of characters to play with and doesn’t hesitate to dip into other Marvel mythos to throw some delicious narrative curveballs.

Russell Dauterman’s artwork just brings everything together so perfectly. There are very few artists in the game with the sense of scale it takes to make such an epic book like this work. Every bit of space is put to good, energetic use in every single panel. The color palette and attention to detail borders on absolute perfection.
