Above all else, I love how even though he just let Batman super soak him with EMP energy, he didn’t really know why it needed to be done until he asked. Readers follow the team in space as they basically run out of gas in the Fantastiship. This leads them to hitchhike their way to the Casino Cosmico, an underground casino and battle arena once run by The Grandmaster but now in the hands of his sister, The Profiteer. While the team tries to find a way to get some fuel, the usual superhero shenanigans are afoot as we learn more about the Casino and the Kree/Skrull alliance. What I like about this book is that I rarely know what the hell is going on. That’s kind of the point to some degree. It’s really high concept and dense stuff sometimes. But on top of that, it makes me reread things and do research on some of these completely out there characters that I’ve either never heard of or barely know anything about. I had to do that with Hyperman and the planet Trombus when I read this issue. It’s stuff like that that definitely makes me feel like I’m getting my money’s worth.
