Tony Stark: Iron Man #9 Review

Writer:Dan Slott / Artist: Valerio Schiti / Marvel Comics Tony Stark: Iron Man #9 brings it in for the real thing. Dan Slott is firing this book on all cylinders. We visit yet another facet of Tony in this issue, or should I say revisit? Tony Stark is in the building! Not the Tony you know and love from the MCU, nah! Golden Age Tony is on deck! Martini swigging, tuxedo dripping, Ferrari whipping with the OG theme kicking Tony is back! But only within the digital confines of the eScape. Tony Stark: Iron Man #9 gives the reader Tony in a way that is super digestible despite being such complex material. The Controller is doing his control thing and Stark Unlimited is saving the day. The real meat and potatoes of the arc are happening on a whole other level of reality: virtual reality. In the eScape, all hell is breaking loose and all of it is focused on Tony and his mom. A lot of the plot threads sown early in the arc come to fruition in issue #9, to dramatic effect. Slott’s run on Iron Man has been one that will redefine to loyal fans and new readers who Tony might be. Or even better, all the different parts of Tony that exist. Not to get too deep, but TS:IM has been (and continues to be) a character analysis of the highest degree. We really get to know Tony through the integrity (or lack thereof) of his relationships.
