Girls Win Big with Disney’s #DreamBigPrincess & You

Just in time for #InternationalDayOfTheGirl, Disney launches a next level #DreamBigPrincess project. The House of Mouse has partnered with the United Nations Foundation’s Girl Up Initiative to bring us stories of innovative women told by an international cadre of young filmmakers.

Girls Can Do Anything

The program challenged 21 Girl Up members to produce and shoot short films featuring female juggernauts from a host of industries. With mentorship provided by Disney, Apple, and the female-led production company Summerjax, each young woman created a short film shot with an iPhone X and edited with Final Cut Pro X on MacBook Pros.

Look, Apple was really all-in. Respect.

This builds on Disney and Girl Up’s previous pair-up for Global Photography which raised $1 million for the Initiative in less than five days. And it’s part of Disney’s greater Dream Big, Princess campaign which encourages kids and adults to match the best traits of their favorite Disney heroines. Whether that’s Tiana’s perseverance or Cinderella’s kindness, Dream Big, Princess pulls out traits and moments that we may overlook while gushing over beautiful gowns and happy endings.

What We Can Do

So now what’s up to us? The #DreamBigPrincess Global Film campaign is down to raise another $1 million for Girl Up, with our help. Disney will donate $1 to support Girl Up every time we like or share a video or photo posted publicly with #DreamBigPrincess from now through November 20th.

Want to do more?

For International Day of the Girl on October 11th, Disney invites fans of all ages to try their best heroine Disneybound, dressing in contemporary clothing inspired by a character. It’s a soft cosplay popularized by fans of the Disney parks and the rule of no adults in character costumes (a valid rule that has sparked endless creativity, just check #Disneybound on Instagram). You can also pop into Disney Stores on October 13th for exciting events to get your princesses dreaming big.

So take to Facebook, Instagram or Twitter and let’s get this money rolling to support girls becoming leaders.
