Kawaii Fest is fast approaching! As stated in the interview with its creator, Sharifa Macias, founder of KF, has been hard at work putting together an event born of passion. Hampton Roads, Virginia is about to welcome influx of cuteness. Prepare yourselves, because Selden Market will play host to a variety of vendors, idols, maids, and workshops all sharing the same passion for the Japanese cultural spectacle that has inspired millions. Marina is the host of Frill Talk: Listen to Real Voices, a J-fashion podcast to bring awareness of the good and the bad of niche alternative fashion spaces in the US and beyond. A dedicated kawaii journalist, Marina loves documenting all things cute and creative.
She created a J-fashion news segment, In Frilly News, where you can keep up with all things kawaii. Marina has been featured in several online media pieces for activism and efforts of encouraging, normalizing BIPOC and marginalized presence in Japanese alternative fashion spaces in the US. She’ll be taking street snaps at the event, so don’t hesitate to join in!”
Workshops

“A gentle approach to a hands-on hobby with paper, scraps, and stickers. In this workshop, attendees will create a junk journal inspired by all things cute, pop culture, and being unapologetically you. Workshop attendees take home a journal, a pink energy mini kit, and a fun exploration of mixed mediums through paper craft.”
“This DIY accessory workshop will have you thinking outside the box when creating accessories for your next outfit. Led by designer Plushii Kawaii, you’ll learn to make accessories with items you probably never thought of! There will be live demonstrations and some hands-on activity too!”
Maid Cafe
Any kawaii event worth its salt MUST have the sweetest maids in the state make an appearance!

“We’re excited to announced the star shines of Starlight Maid & Butler Cafe will be attending Kawaii Fest!
Starlight Maid and Butler Cafe is Hampton Roads very own premiere maid cafe group that has made appearances at local conventions like Nekocon and host adorable pop-up events as well!
They are bringing all of their out of this world moe magic to to the event and will be having a panel teaching about maid cafe culture!”
