The title for this episode of Lanterns was “Lights Out,” but it should have been titled, “Hal Jordan Will Air Your Entire Block Out.” I mean, good gawd, Hal really out here not giving a fuck. Not a single one, whatsoever. When he figured out Zoe was the Manhunter and that John Stewart knew for mad long, you could see the hurt across Hal’s face ’cause he was being honest with John. But John chose to lie to Hal’s face? Right in the windows of Hal’s soul? Awww, man. Hal was singing Ashanti aloud like, “After all of this time that we tried (Why? Why? Why?) I found out we were living a lie (You lie, you lie, you lie)”. Next thing John knew, Hal hit 80 mph then hit a telephone pole. I done seen some foul shit in my life, but Hal Jordan dumping out the whip with John till inside, for a second time, is wild work. The wildest work, to be exact. Specifically, watching Hal Jordan walk up to John, pinned in the passenger seat, and saying, “You okay buddy? You good? Need some orange slices?” Once Hal spilled his plan to John, that he was taking him off the board, then using Antaan’s aliens strike force as a smoke screen by telling them William Macon is the Manhunter, so that he can go after the actual Manhunter, Zoe? That moment (among many others) solidified that this isn’t the comic book adaptation of Hal “Highball” Jordan. This Hal is a different beast entirely.
