How Did I Let Some New ‘Blade Runner’ Sneak Up On Me?

So much drama in the LBC…

With news dropping every four seconds during San Diego Comic Con, it’s hard picking out a couple you really want to drill down on. But still, I kind of feel like Amazon shadow dropped a trailer for one of the most revered sci-fi franchises ever. I felt like this shit got slipped into the bill like a voter-id law or some bullshit. You know what, let me not disrespect my GOAT franchise like that.

Blade Runner 2099 is dropping on Amazon Prime THIS YEAR, fam. Pardon the rock I’ve been under but either these shows getting pumped out like bad hot takes on the Odyssey, or they been moving in silence on this one for a minute. Starring Hunter Schafer from Euphoria (Jules) fame and Michelle Yeoh from dream woman in every regard fame, 2099 is a sequel to the film Blade Runner 2049. A film I hold dear and a classic in my mind that does not get talked about enough. Some of Ryan Gosling’s best work and that man got some best work. What’s the story? Besides the ongoing war of replicants, what it means to be human and existentialism in a techno dystopia? No fucking clue. I got NATHAN from that trailer. But I’m still tempted!

Now, is Capitalist Prime using one of my beloved franchises to hook me into streaming slop? I really, really hope not. Showrunner Silka Luisa doesn’t have a long or storied history of good show making to this point (we’ll never get back what we lost from the Halo TV series). But I’m willing to give it a look. Cuz, Yeoh. And Blade Runner. And also Yeoh.

The eight episode limited series starts on Nov 25, so be ready for some action, questions about existence and moral quandaries at Thanksgiving. Ya know, the regular holiday. You got me for at least 3 episodes y’all. I expect to be dreaming of electric sheep by then.
