Nightwing #14 Review

Writer: Tim Seeley / Artist: Marcus To / DC Comics

The Bludhaven finale that sees our hero simultaneously try to track down a murderer, clear his own name, and put the Runaways back on solid ground came to a close this issue with some mixed results. Having learned that good ol’, “my life is renewed again” Jimmy is the murderer and responsible for setting everyone up, the police chief was left with trying to smuggle not only Nightwing but the Defacer past the city limits to put an end to the spree. In the end, the wrap up as far as the action felt a little lackluster and definitely didn’t have the same punch the conclusion with the Raptor gave us. The tech that Jimmy possess and uses in his arsenal is cool, but it kind of yada yada’s the impact or context of him owning these weapons. What actually saves this arc from going out with a whimper is the wrap up after the fighting and seeing the resolution with the Runaways.

Marcus To has been consistently good on this book since entering it and I will say the action scenes look pretty damn good. Perhaps my favorite part of the artwork is the quiet dialogue moments as To really has a strength for character work.

The Bludhaven finale hits most notes if not all but is a fitting end to a good arc that puts Nightwing in his most familiar or destinations of late.
