If you are a fan of point-and-click and detectives games as I am, then Bear With Me is the perfect game for you! This game features a ten-year-old girl named Amber and her booze addicted (it’s carrot juice), retired bear Ted E. Bear. They must come together to investigate the disappearance of Amber’s brother Flint. Now I know what you might be thinking. A game about a girl and her bear must be nothing but childish. Trust me when I say it’s far from it. This game has a distinct style with hilarious dialogue and witty pop culture references.
Bear With Me’s artistic style persuades you to explore every single detail of each environment. The only way to fully experience this game is by clicking on every item and be treated with funny dialogue from Amber and Ted. We also get to enjoy narration by Ted himself as he helps move the story along. Since the game only plays music at certain points, we start the game off in Amber’s room in silence with only the sound of thunder and rain. The atmosphere is brought to life with flashes of lightning as well. The use of light, shadows, and sound effects give the scenes a creepy, eerie vibe that makes each moment intense.
The game can be slow at times. Traveling from room to room takes a bit of time since we literally see the characters walking. Some of the puzzles are tedious and require a lot of thinking and observing. It’s a pro and a con as the game is short and this helps lengthen the playtime. There is also A LOT of dialogue that seems to go on and on and on. Sometimes, you’re given dialogue options that bring on little gems within the game. However, they all lead to the same result.
Don’t get it twisted though, this game is good! It’s fun to meet the different characters and experience their personalities. This game is not so much about completing it but more so enjoying the story.
