Low #1 Review

Rick Remender~Writer Greg Tocchini ~Artist   Simpy put…it’s difficult to categorize this new series. On paper, one could say it belongs to the scifi genre (As most people probably would with one glance at the cover image above.) And with just one issue down, it’s still a difficult thing to do because I think we may just pigeonhole this comic. From what I gather from reading this first issue, the human race is fighting to survive, to escape a fate where the sun will one day overpower the planet Earth and destroy it. Humans have moved their homes under the sea to massive cities, while sending up probes, looking for hope, looking for answers—for a new home, an new planet. Years have passed, the populations have grown in the cities that have survived and more immediately dangers face them in the form of creatures under the sea than the sun that will one day their lives eventually. The start of this journey follows Shel and Johl, the parents of three children who live raising their children and going about their work according to the beat of their own drums. The mother Shel is ever optimistic and works more as a researcher/scientist type. She speaks of the probes that will bring good news while the father Johl is a hunter of sorts. He’s the last of his blood line to be able to operate an mecha like suit that he wants at least one of his children to inherit the ability to be able to do.
