‘Kaiju No. 8: Mission Recon’ Coming to Theaters this April

Crunchyroll and Sony Pictures Entertainment to release the omnibus film in North American theatres April 13, 14 and 16

I’m a big fan of the Kaiju No. 8 anime series–it was one of my favorite series last spring and a hotly anticipated anime series adapted from a pretty popular manga series, as well. Centering on a man working a job far removed from his childhood dreams who gets wrapped up in an unexpected situation, it quickly became a well loved and well watched title in the anime streaming lineup of 2024.

Of it I wrote:” This first episode of Kaiju No. 8 does a fine job in the simple but solid world building of this anime’s version of Japan and the Kaiju monster that attacks it constantly. I think that audiences will start to see the string of the anime series’ narrative of the value of labor, not dismissing those who support us and fully going after what your heart’s desire is…”

As we reached the season finale–the fandom was blessed with awesome news! Sequel Production Confirmed! Along with hope that we’d see more of Kafka, all the Defense Force solders and the mysterious, intelligent Kaiju that has quickly become a thorn in the side of everyone, involved.

In a Kaiju-filled Japan, Kafka Hibino works in totally not glamorous monster disposal. After reuniting with his childhood friend Mina Ashiro, a rising star in the anti-Kaiju Defense Force, he decides to pursue his abandoned dream of joining the Force… when he suddenly transforms into the powerful “Kaiju No. 8.” With help from his junior colleague Reno Ichikawa, Kafka hides his identity while striving towards his life-long dream of passing the Defense Force exam and standing at Mina’s side. But when a mysterious intelligent Kaiju attacks a Defense Force base, Kafka faces a crucial decision in a desperate situation…that puts everything at risk.
