Live it Up Big In a Look At ‘The Night Is Short, Walk On Girl’

After I watched Fireworks this past July, I was pleasantly surprised to see a teaser for Gkids’ newly acquired feature coming to theaters in late August. I watched, fascinated by the short piece we were gifted and laughed with my fellow movie goers at the antics of the characters on the big screen. From the mind of director Masaaki Yuasa (Mind Game, Lu Over the Wall, The Tatami Galaxy and Adventure Time‘s “Food Chain” episode) comes The Night is Short, Walk On Girl. The film is billed as a comedy about one epic night in Kyoto when a group of young adults go and paint the town red. Among them, a sophomore known only as “The Girl with Black Hair” has a series of surreal encounters with the local nightlife. She does this all the while unaware of the romantic longings of “Senpai” — a fellow student who, in an effort to win her heart, has been creating increasingly fantastic and contrived reasons to run into her. We’re told this is a anime rom-com full of all things bizarre and strange, with a side of youthful longing (and of course, lots of alcohol).

Lots of trippy visuals and bright colors and a cast of characters that seems pulled from parts of your own life make The Night is Short, Walk On Girl a contender of films to wrap up Summer 2018 with.
