Summer’s Here! NETFLIX & Chill with New Releases in July

Summer’s finally here (about d*mn time…), so you know what that means: beaches, BBQs, and sky-high air conditioning bills. But at least there’s a bevy of exciting movies, shows, and NETFLIX originals coming to your favorite streaming service this July.

How It Ends – NETFLIX ORIGINAL, July 13

Kat Graham’s in trouble in How It Ends

In the 1967 film classic Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner, a White woman (Katharine Haughton) brings her Black fiancé (Sidney Poitier) to meet her close-minded parents (Katherine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy). In 2005 Bernie Mac flipped the script with Ashton Kutcher as the fish-out-of-water in the loose reboot, Guess Who. Now Netflix has upped the ante on the in-laws from Hell concept in a BIG way – with the apocalypse.

Forest “Deh Bleck Pentha” Whittaker stars as a hard-nosed father with a serious case of “I Can’t Believe My Daughter Married This Fool-Itis” forced to race across the country with his pretty boy son-in-law (Theo James) in order to save his pregnant daughter (Kat Graham). Oh yeah, and the world is ending due to an unknown cataclysm. How It Ends is an action-thriller that will put those awkward Thanksgiving dinners with your in-laws in some serious perspective.

Orange is the New Black (Season 6) – NETFLIX ORIGINAL, July 27

Orange is the New Black gears up for Season 6

The ladies of Litchfield are back for season 6 of Orange is the New Black and things are about to get even more real. The inmates must endure the consequences of their failed prison riot after being transferred to a maximum security facility. The aftermath of Poussey’s (Samira Wiley) death will likely contribute to major story arcs, especially for riot leader Taystee (Danielle Brooks). I’ve already got my tissues and Hagen Daz on deck.

The Comedy Lineup– NETFLIX ORIGINAL, July 3

Comedian Michelle Buteau in The Comedy Lineup

Netflix comedy specials are known for bringing the heat (not you, Amy Schumer) and that’s exactly what they’re doing with The Comedy Lineup. The new NETFLIX original series features 15-minute performances from up-and-coming comedians like Michelle Buteau, Jak Knight, and Saturday Night Live writer Sam Jay. Get ready for deep belly laughs followed by that obligatory, “Woooooh!”
