Yeah, the Fallout TV Show is as Good as You’ve Been Hearing [in progress]

Video game adaptations, am I right? I think, along with every other gamer at the time, when the announcement of a Fallout show came, to say was skeptical would be a gross understatement. Partially because Fallout is still a beloved video game property and it happens more often than it doesn’t that TV and movie execs want to kill something we love. But also the track record is often terrible for adapting this big ass games. And while I want to review the Fallout TV show at some point in my Fallout TV show review, I can’t ignore why delight at such a promising pilot episode stems from. Everyone who has opinions on such matters, has an opinion on why most video game adaptations into live action don’t work. My working theory (theories) boil down to some version of three components. First off, so many video games, even if they are deathly serious tonally, are just silly from a media perspective. Whether its non-humanoid aliens or physics that wouldn’t exist in the real world, vampires yo, or humans with impossible aim and dexterity for dodging bullets, the suspension of disbelief for video games is so much higher than what we usually tolerate for seeing actual humans (with VFX and whatnot) performing. But I also think about budget. For costumes and set designs adn effects and all the things are are in the origination of a video game but must be adapated into a real world landscape for a show or movie.
