I blame my older sister. Or thank her. Because if it wasn’t for her copies of Pet Shop of Horrors, or her taking me along to bookstores, I highly doubt I would have found my love of anime and manga at all. I used to look forward to browsing through those aisles of colorful books, eager to find one with enough magical girl amazingness that we all secretly adore (and hate) to take home with me. Of course, my parents didn’t mind, since I was taking an interest in reading, and I’m sure they thought I would grow out of it (hahahahaha). My early loves were found on Cartoon Network and Adult Swim (Yu Yu Hakusho, Rurouni Kenshin, Inuyasha, Sailor Moon, and my favorite, Cowboy Bebop). I was inspired by the numerous moral lessons I found throughout the pages of different manga, and the heroic acts displayed on screen. I’m grateful for anime because it has helped me become the person that I am today; The kind of a person with a huge-ass Fruits Basket wall scroll in my room, and a heart willing to always try to do the right thing in every tricky situation I come across (Because that’s what Yugi Muto would do).
