Katsucon 2023 Review:

It’s been a few years since I’ve been to a convention. But there was the Gaylord to welcome me home. The time spent away didn’t matter; I stepped onto that gorgeous venue, and the feeling of being engulfed by fellow connosiuers of anime/weeb shit consumed me. Katsucon 2023 did not disappoint me. The Gaylord was packed. Feathers, worbla, huge-ass props, impractical shoes surrounded me. Ballgowns twirled about, LEDs were flashing, and there the mandatory roving DJs. (Because how else how are you going to get your Caramelldansen fix wandering through the halls without them?). But this year was different. This year, my parents came with me. I wanted to get an idea of how older generations view our eccentric hobbies. How did parents think of the cosplayers? The dances, the Danny DeVito signs, the furry body pillows in the Artist Alley? As we wandered through the resort, my parents witnessed nerds in their prime. Bunny suits, human-sized Digletts, fluffy princesses, and rolling droids. It must have all seemed totally batshit to them! But they enjoyed it! My father loved the historical cosplays, and my mother wanted to try and be a panelist next year to teach nerds Yoga. They were kind enough to give me some more insight on the weekend: Dev: Katsucon was a great experience for me. We saw various costumes in attendees. The atmosphere was very pleasant.
