“Red Dot”, Netflix’s first Swedish original feature, is a bone-chilling ride from start to finish

“Brrr! It’s cold in here! It must be some gun-toting maniacs chasing random couples in the frozen Swedish wilderness in the atmosphere!” or whatever they said in Bring it On. That’s the vibe in Netflix’s first Swedish original feature Red Dot, a thriller starring Nanna Blondell (Real Humans, Black Widow) and Anastasios Soulis (State of Happiness, Losers). Written by Alain Darborg and Per Dickson, Red Dot follows interracial couple Nadja (Blondell) and David (Soulis) after their relatively new marriage has hit the skids for unknown reasons. David has become obsessed with his work and clearly suffers from depression, while Nadja grows resentful of her detached husband and carrying their marriage alone on her back. David and Nadja before all hell breaks loose. Then there’s the fact that Nadja is hiding her pregnancy from David, unsure if she wants to keep the baby considering the state of things. She confides in their neighbor Thomas (Thomas Hanzon), a man grieving the loss of his own child who died sometime prior. The following morning, David surprises Nadja with a camping trip to the woods because nothing says “rekindled romance” like sleeping in a flimsy tent out in the freezing snow. Things only go downhill for the couple from there. While on the road to the camp site, the Nadja and David encounter racist white dudes who don’t take kindly to David’s being with a Black woman (despite acknowledging their attraction to her).
