Harley Quinn and Power Girl #1 Review

writers: Amanda Conner, Justin Gray & Jimmy Palmiotti / Artist: Stéphane Roux / DC Comics

In DC Comics’ Harley Quinn series, we saw our favorite maniacal mistress team up with Power Girl for a series of adventures, some of which took them to space for an undetermined amount of time. Well, now we get to find out what happened!

Issue #1 of the miniseries shows Harley Quinn and Power Girl drifting through space until they crash land on an unknown planet. In their search for another transportation ring, hopefully not on someone else’s toe, they end up in a forest where they meet a “free love” promoting, ponytail-wearing Yoda look-alike. If he’s an example, living alone in a forest leads to two things: a lifetime supply of free ‘shrooms and a lot of  cold, lonely nights.

Outside of the Star Wars nod, Harley Quinn and Power Girl covered a lot of ground. The pair went from battling an alien hydra in a forest to traveling in a (fully-furnished) empty robot head to becoming the symbols of a revolution against systemic oppression. All the while firing guns that were bigger than a sedan and causing explosions at every turn.

Harley and Kara’s relationship still isn’t drawn out, which is great because it means you can imagine it going anywhere – the shipping possibilities are endless.

This miniseries has a lot of story to tap into. Given the pace of this first issue, we’re sure to see a lot more explosions, lasers and tag team female badassery.
