Writer: Matt Fraction
Artist: Chip Zdarsky
Image’s Gawds of Olympus are back at it with the latest issue of Sex Criminals. This book isn’t much for action issues but what it lacks in explosions, fight scenes and death defying escapes, it makes up with straight real talk, sexual education, creative panels and art imitating life at it’s most unfiltered. Fraction & Zdarsky are really changing the game story telling wise to the point where if you aren’t listing Sex Criminals in your Top 5 Comics Dead or Alive (read: canceled or on-going) then your are probably a bad person.
This issue we get John and Suzy aka “This Fucking Girl (Bae)” checking out others that can enter The Quiet and air out some tension at one another. We also get the origin of (John’s crush) Jazmine St. Cocaine, exploring her early childhood and experiences that lead her to stripping and the porn industry. Can we give props for breaking down the money needed for college on minimum wage versus whats made in the entrainment industry mad casually? We see how Ana Kincaid (Jazmine) goes from being John’s fetish to her own character to her own characters that happens to have a PHD that is currently breaking down the dynamics of The Quiet with science mutha fuckas. Yeah. What the fuck yall know about character development like that? Not a god damn thing.
Don’t even get me started on how Fraction pens Kincaid’s explanation of trying to achieve her climaxes (reminded me of the quidditch scene from Harry Potter). My man must have been going over mad books and Georgia O’Keeffe calendars to come up with that description. The dope thing about Fraction is that his story telling becomes poetry so easily and with Zdarsky on art work it comes to life like no other book in the game. They keep on proving that Sex Criminals doesn’t need the Michael Bay action sequences, they murdering the game with straight up plot and wit.
