As far as I’m concerned, Ridley Scott has many years of penance to pay moviegoers and, ultimately, humanity at large for subjecting innocent minds to Prometheus. If the early reviews are any evidence, Alien: Covenant might just be putting him further in the red if that’s possible. Fortunately, the sci-fi gawds have smiled upon this week in the form of the beautiful trailer for Blade Runner 2048.
We’re given a lot to work with but also not much at the same time. It all goes by fast so I’ll leave to better minds to break down the trailer bit by bit. All we know is that a new Blade Runner named K (Ryan Gosling) is searching for a McGuffin that could somehow upend society. From there, it seems to look like The Search for Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford). Oh and Jared Leto is saying creepy shit and growing replicants in his apartment.
We’re okay with that because it’s another excuse for him to not be playing the Joker. That’s a benefit, so it’s not our problem. Other than that, it’s glorious future visions, techno violence, things exploding and basically the moral of the story is that our tickets are officially bought. Blade Runner 2049 opens in theaters October 6, 2017.
