Fall 2025 is upon us, and we’re anticipating several returns for anime series with third seasons and a plethora of new series to fill our streaming plates with as pumpkin spice season arrives! From the start of the final season of beloved shonen staple My Hero Academia to bouts of princesses, gamers, murder on spaceships and more, here’s a quick sampling of what to expect from the highly anticipated series making their way to our television screens this Fall!
The Fated Magical Princess: Who Made Me a Princess
Studio: (Colored Pencil Animation Design)
Premiere Date: September 28, 2025 on Crunchyroll
Premise: When a woman wakes up as Athanasia, the ill-fated princess from the novel The Lovely Princess, she’s gotta rewrite this tragedy or face execution—by her own father! She may be trapped, but she’s got her wits and the doomed girl’s memories to help her with a plot twist of survival. But when her escape plan fails, she has to charm her way into not being executed again.
What to Expect: OH, OH. I have a collection of favorite Korean Manhwa webcomics that popped up online that I devoured (I haven’t finished collecting my physical volumes yet), and Who Made me a Princess falls into that beloved category. This series stood out for its engaging emotional long game narrative that paid off in later arcs of the story. Not only did I get emotionally invested in Athanasia, her (complicated) relationship with her father, BUT I did also fall in love with its cast of characters–the plot twists keep coming and the connections between them all keep the story one to follow. The animation looks gorgeous, here’s hoping that this adaptation serves the fandom well as did The Reason Why Raeliana Ended Up at the Duke’s Mansion (let’s get another season of this, Typhoon Graphics).
Let’s Play
Studio: (OLM)
Premiere Date: October 1, 2025, on Crunchyroll
Premise: Samara “Sam” Young is a developer in Los Angeles who’s about to achieve her dreams with her first video game, Ruminate. That is, until a popular streamer gives the game a scathing review. Even worse, Sam finds out the troublesome critic is now her new neighbor! Get lost in a comedic, romantic, and all-too-real story about gaming, memes, and social anxiety. Come for the plot, stay for the doggo.
What to Expect: The webcomic pipeline to animated series is serious and the people have been yearning for the animated adaptation of the Eisner and Ringo nominated webtoon Let’s Play. It feels like a lifetime ago when I first started reading Mongie’s work yet I’m ready to watch episode one, for sure. While the news of the anime is bringing old fans back into the fold–fans still have some lingering concerns (like the art style) and some curiosity about how the story might be rewritten for animation–I think the logline of “Shojo Gaming Romance” is enough to get anyone onboard with watching.
Kakuriyo -Bed & Breakfast for Spirits- 2
Studio: (GONZO and Makaria)
Premiere Date: October 1, 2025, on Crunchyroll
Premise: Aoi Tsubaki can see ayakashi! After being taken to Tenjin-ya, in the hidden realm, Aoi is charged with paying off her grandfather’s debt. She opens an eatery, Moonflower, to satisfy the hearts and hunger of the ayakashi. After an ordeal at Orio-ya, in the southern land, Aoi returns to Moonflower to find that her peaceful days are quickly coming to an end as a crisis approaches Tenjin-ya.
What to Expect: Studio Gonzo brings to life Midori Yūma and illustrator’s Laruha’s light novel series about a young woman, Aoi Tsubaki, who can see spirits. This series has become a fave as a comfort anime series and also one that is easy to watch with no huge block of episodes or set of animated films to watch. If you’re still on the fence, consider if you like an anime with the supernatural, slice of life/cooking, and some swoon worthy romance worth checking out.
May I Ask for One Final Thing?
Studio: (LIDENFILMS Kyoto Studio)
Premiere Date: October 3, 2025, on Crunchyroll | Two-episode premiere
Premise: Scarlet has put up with her fiancé’s bullying long enough. Not only is Second Prince Kyle arrogant and crude, but he suddenly called off their engagement during a ball. And if things couldn’t get any worse, he then accuses her of a crime she never committed. Fueled by betrayal, Scarlet unleashes her rage, giving the prince and his nobles a beatdown they’ll never forget.
What to Expect: So May I Ask for One Final Thing? snuck up on me–y’all know that I love the villianess/ reincarnated/transmigrated female character anime genre and this one, adapted from a light novel reveals a fun twist: THE VILLIANESS GOT HANDS. Scarlet got hands, rated E for Everyone and while I hope the source material is not thin in regards to plot, I look forward to watching her give everyone fades. That’s it. I’m tuning in solely for the reasoning to live vicariously through this woman get her lick back.
My Hero Academia FINAL SEASON
Studio: (BONES FILM)
Premiere Date: My Hero Academia FINAL SEASON is coming to Crunchyroll October 4, 2025
Premise: Deku and the heroes are plunged into a final battle against villains across Japan. Deku, by fully unleashing One For All Quirks, faces off against Shigaraki. A young and refreshed All For One faces Armored All Might, Quirkless in his powered armor suit. Will Deku be able to bring the story of how they all became the greatest heroes to its finale? Or will everything be destroyed?!
What to Expect: It would be an understatement to say we that we here at BNP love My Hero Academia. We have had a decade long love affair with the series, engaging in it from the manga, to the games, to the anime, and films that followed. Deku and the crew have long been a shonen staple that finally had a close to its manga and the fandom is looking to see the end via its anime adaptation. What is to know and anticipate: the final battle for it all. I’m expecting all the heart and despair in the finale of this series we have come to love so much.
Tojima Wants to Be a Kamen Rider
Studio: (LIDENFILMS)
Premiere Date: October 4, 2025, on Crunchyroll
Premise: The story of Tojima Wants to Be a Kamen Rider follows Tanzaburo Tojima, a forty-year-old man who is abnormally obsessed with the Kamen Rider franchise. Tojima is about to give up on his dream of becoming a hero until a chance encounter with a robber changes his fate forever.
What to Expect: Oh, you know I’m game to watch this. Hilariously, I was chatting up a friend about Mumen Rider from One Punch Man, and then I came across the trailer for Tojima Wants to Be a Kamen Rider. What to look forward to and expect? The story follows forty-year-old Tanzaburo Tojima, who is about to finally give up on becoming a Kamen Rider before a certain incident changes his fortune–I love seeing older protagonist in anime along with that theme of never being too old to follow your dreams. Also, the Japanese superhero media franchise (not to be confused with Power Rangers which I grew up on was based off of) — is incredibly interesting and something I’d like to learn more about.
SPY x FAMILY Season 3
Studio: (WIT STUDIO and CloverWorks)
Premiere Date: October 4, 2025, on Crunchyroll
Premise: World peace is at stake and secret agent <Twilight> (aka Loid Forger) must undergo his most difficult mission yet—pretend to be a family man. Posing as a loving husband and father, he’ll infiltrate an elite school to get close to a high-profile politician. He has the perfect cover, except his wife’s a deadly assassin and neither knows each other’s identity. But someone does, his adopted daughter who’s a telepath.
What to Expect: Sit tight for the lovely reminder that Loid is growing even more attached to his little family and one of my favorite comfort anime series returns because I need my wholesome and comedic feels! This is also a good time to recommend the first two seasons to anyone who needs an anime recommendation along with the Spy x Family Code: White film, which has been available to stream on the Crunchyroll app as well.
To Your Eternity Season 3
Studio: (Drive and STUDIO MASSKET)
Premiere Date: October 4, 2025, on Crunchyroll
Premise: Following the battles in Renril and the elimination of the Nokkers, Fushi awakens in the modern era. He enjoys a peaceful life surrounded by friends young and old. As ominous shadows begin to grow, Fushi learns of the true goals of his creator, The Beholder. Faced with new trials, the time is fast approaching for Fushi to make the ultimate decision.
What to Expect: First things first, this anime adaptation will always have a hold on me because my beloved Hikaru Utada contributed a theme song. To Your Eternity features such a massive, sprawling story that deserves a complete reread from the start and also a great anime adaptation–and yet I don’t know how much my heart can take in my reread and rewatch. No spoilers, you have to know this show is going to WRECK you and with many fans not being able to survive the emotional damage of the narrative and some of the arc animated that dragged on, some fans are left questioning if the new season is something to watch immediately or sit on.
My Status as an Assassin Obviously Exceeds the Hero’s
Studio: (Sunrise)
Premiere Date: October 6, 2025, on Crunchyroll
Premise: Akira Oda and his high school classmates are summoned to another world! While the other students are granted cheat abilities through the summoning, Akira merely gains the abilities of a mediocre “assassin.” However, his status soon surpasses “hero,” the strongest profession. After Akira becomes suspicious of the King behind the summoning, he is falsely framed for a crime and forced to flee.
What to Expect: Oh, NOICE. I remembering being so captivated by how subversive the narrative in this manga series felt to me. Lo and behold, Sunrise is handling the anime adaptation of it! This series really plays up morality and how a hero or being heroic can be defined. You want an underdog? You want a complicated world and some pretty unique challenges and lore? You’ll want to be watching this when it airs this fall.
A Mangaka’s Weirdly Wonderful Workplace
Studio: (Drive and STUDIO MASSKET)
Premiere Date: October 4, 2025, on Crunchyroll
Premise: Futami, a novice shojo manga artist, is finally publishing her beloved shogi manga, Dear Subaru. But…the stress makes her stomach hurt, she’s forced to push the deadline for her first chapter, and she isn’t making any progress on the storyboards. To top it off, she’s gaining weight from midnight snacking and starts having wild delusions! Will Futami be able to enjoy life as a manga artist?!
What to Expect: I LOVE manga and anime that explores manga making–and animation. I wouldn’t call it a niche genre, yet it is not something I see everyday. A Shojo manga artist being at the helm of this story is obviously a lure for me, yet I really feel that the appeal is the comedic harmony (or dishmarony) between Futami and her team tasked with helping her get the manga done. Whether this is a new ode to female friendship or a manga workplace GL in the making (*anime gasp*), I’m happy to give a watch.
GNOSIA
Studio: (domerica)
Premiere Date: October 11, 2025, on Crunchyroll
Premise: The story of GNOSIA takes place on a ship drifting through space. Gnosia is an enemy that disguises itself as a human and attacks them. It is now on the spaceship, causing everyone onboard to be suspicious of each other. The crew decides to vote on the most suspicious-looking person every day and put them into a cold sleep. If the humans succeed in putting Gnosia to sleep, they’ll win. On the other hand, if they don’t, everyone on board is in danger. The right decision must be made. No matter what decision is made by the main character, Yuri, she finds herself in a time loop that returns her to the first day of the crisis.
What to Expect: Do you like Among Us? Do you like sci-fiction? Do you like anime adaptations of video games with a refresh for the fandom? GNOSIA is that and more. While you can’t include me in on the initial fandom for the franchise, I am super curious about the story and I’m game to watch. Anime adaptations of games always intrigue me as I see.
