Goddard Jumps “Daredevil” Ship, DeKnight Takes The Wheel

This Week In Daredevil News, Drew Goddard, showrunner for the upcoming Netflix series, has decided to jump ship to work primarily on Sinister Six, Sony’s spinoff from The Amazing Spider-Man series. It’s unclear as to whether or not Goddard’s workload was overwhelming…..or if Sony turned out to not be okay with the overlap with Marvel. Reportedly, the Buffy/Angel alumnus will be staying on the Daredevil crew in a consultant capacity (with his script for the first episode still being used), but the move has thus far proven to be less than stellar press for Marvel with Edgar Wright leaving the Ant-Man movie in rather mic-dropping fashion not even a week prior. Steven S. DeKnight, creator and showrunner for Spartacus, will be taking his fellow Buffy alum’s spot on Daredevil.

The show about Matt Murdock, a lawyer by day/acrobatic pulp vigilante by night, is reported to be 13 episodes long and released as part of a deal struck between Marvel and Netflix last November. Also part of the deal were three other series involving Daredevil’s fellow street level heroes, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones and Iron Fist. The end game is for heroes to join up for a separate series as The Defenders. Daredevil is slated to begin shooting in New York City this summer and scheduled for release on Netflix in 2015.
