September brings back to school season, the welcome of cooler temperatures, and even pumpkin spice season. The first day of fall this year falls on September 22 and that means the Fall 2024 anime season is right around the corner! HIDIVE bringing fantasy, isekai, comedy, and even a series I’ve been eyeing that has a focus on folktales that looks to be for the younger anime watchers in our lives. Let’s get into it!
Loner Life in Another World
(Hitoribocchi no Isekai Kouryaku)
Premiere Date: Thursday, September 26, 2024, at 11:00 AM EDT (15:00 UTC)
Premise: After getting isekai’d into another world with his entire high school class, “God” offers Haruka and his peers their choice of special powers so they can become fantasy heroes. But Haruka accidentally missed the power selection period, and now he’s stuck with the leftover abilities his classmates refused to take! Seemingly underpowered, he makes use of his unwanted skills to live a (surprisingly comfortable) life as a lone wolf…but his classmates soon learn their “superior” abilities aren’t as great as they’re cracked up to be, and Haruka may have to come to their rescue using ingenuity, creativity, and the leftover powers his classmates once snubbed.
What to Expect: another light novel adaptation with a ✨TWIST✨! I’m seeing this series billed as “A sarcastic isekai comedy” which just might be my jam! I’ll tune in.
Recommended for lovers of: Isekai with a fun twist perhaps, fantasy, and COMEDY, COMEDY, COMEDY!
2.5 Dimensional Seduction Cour 2
(2.5-jigen no Ririsa)
Premiere Date: Friday, September 27, 2024, at 9:30 AM EDT (13:30 UTC)
Premise: Okumura, the otaku president of his school’s manga club, has absolutely no interest in real girls and prefers the sexy fictional 2D manga character, Liliel. However, when the new school year begins, he discovers the club has a new member: Ririsa. She not only has a passion for cosplay but considers Lilliel her favorite character. They quickly bond and when Ririsa convinces Okumura to be her photographer, the line between 2D and 3D blurs.
What to Expect: “The boundaries between 2D and 3D start to blur as this hot-blooded romantic comedy unfolds,” as HIDIVE describes it in its second cour/season.
Recommended for lovers of: Harem anime, ecchi and cosplay and otaku culture, and impact
How I Attended an All-Guy’s Mixer
(Goukon ni Ittara Onna ga Inakatta Hanashi)
Premiere Date: Friday, October 4, 2024, at 2:00 PM EDT (18:00 UTC)
Premise: College student Tokiwa gets invited to a mixer by his female classmate Suo. But when he arrives with his friends Asagi and Hagi, they’re greeted by three dazzlingly handsome men. Turns out these three cute boys are actually women in drag—still in costume from their day jobs at a butler cafe that caters to a female clientele! As the six get to know each other, they soon find themselves getting closer in unexpectedly heartwarming (and hilarious) ways.
What to Expect: Oh, is this a Shojo series? OK then. I will be tuning in then. Looks like we might be getting some unexpected found family happening with gender-bending humor along the way?
Recommended for lovers of: Bishōnen, comedy and romance genres, and college-aged characters
Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? V
(Dungeon ni Deai wo Motomeru no wa Machigatteiru Darou ka V: Houjou no Megami-hen)
Premiere Date: Thursday, October 3, 2024, at 9:00 AM EDT (13:00 UTC)
Premise: As the labyrinth city of Orario prepares for the Goddess Festival, Bell Cranel looks forward to the festivities after his and Ryu’s harrowing escape from the Dungeon’s darkened depths. However, in a small tavern tucked away on a street corner, the single decision of a young woman causes a chain of events that throws Bell’s life and the entire city into chaos.
What to Expect: Ongoing adaptation based on popular fantasy light novel series continues this fall–“the debut of Season 5 will truly be a celebration — a pre-celebration of next year’s 10th anniversary the anime” as reported by Animation Magazine! Also, if you weren’t familiar with the series: it’s not for the younger anime fans!
Recommended for lovers of: The fantasy and isekai genres, action and adventure, and anyone wanting the best (or worse) for main character Bell.
Future Folktales 2 Asatir 2: Mirai no Mukashi Banashi
Premiere Date: Monday, November 4, 2024, at 10:00 AM EST (15:00 UTC)
Premise: In 2050 Riyadh, a grandmother named Asma takes her cherished grandchildren on a whirlwind journey to the past, showcasing the heritage and history of the Arabian Peninsula through retellings of the region’s most beloved folktales. With the help of their robotic cat, Anis, the children learn that their modern-day dilemmas are no match for the words of wisdom passed from generation to generation through their grandmother’s fascinating stories.
What to Expect: This appears to be an anime series with a younger viewer demographic with shorter stories!
Recommended for lovers of: Arab characters in animation and anime for kids and families
