Miles Morales: Ultimate Spider-Man #8

Writer: Brian Michael Bendis
Artist: David Marquez

ARGGHHHHHHHH THIS IS ISSUE IS ALL I EVER WANTED AND THEN SOOOOME!!!

You know it’s real when you gotta start with a .gif off the strength yo. We finally get the story behind Jefferson Davis. He been disappeared for a minute like Kanye then came back on the scene to tell his son that back in the day he was on the man on these street. That “Power” beat drops as he is telling Miles ALL THE GRIME he was doing back in the day.

Jefferson:

You know I was the original Rick Grimes back in the day, right? I ain’t need a gun though just these hands. My hand game? Crazy. If kicking ass was an arcade game ain’t nobody was seeing me. You understand boy? Before I was changing your diaper I was slammin cadillac doors with cats arms sticking out’em. Sheeeeeeit.

This issue isn’t very Miles heavy but we are back in the day some 25 years ago (comic book time). Mile is father is rolling with his brother for some collections. Jefferson is the muscle reluctantly. We all know how this is going to turn out as Aaron goes to collect money owed to him, it is promised to be given at a different location, which as the two being split up. We got Jefferson outnumbered and he knows whats coming. He tries to reason with’em before goes straight up ’72 Joe Frazier across their faces. Jefferson is straight up fucking dudes up till the police show. We next seem him being bailed out by a young guy with an iconic eye patch.

Miles

Oh yes sir! Thats young (ultimate) Nick Fury on the panels being fresher than you’ll ever be. He tells Jefferson that his skills are going to get him recruited, and that his brother is an asshole. He tells him he is going to have to do things thats going to make him a bad person under this current crime boss, then he is going to get drafted by a guy named Wilson Fisk, who is M. Bison (or Balrog over seas) in the flesh. He is going to to watch Fisk and report in with Fury and might save the world.

Bendis is not fucking around anymore. We are starting to see why Jefferson has such a distrust for the whole super heroics and folks with powers. There is much more he has to reveal to Miles but it’s safe to say with this loose connection with S.H.I.E.L.D. he has seen some shit that he is about to delve into with Miles. He asking Miles if he got the stomach for him to continue. Come on man, this ain’t the typical father son talk right here. I’m loving this approach and depth given to Jefferson. Lord knows how things are going to escalate next issue.
