Oh, DCU, You Shouldn’t Have: Green Lantern 2020 (Extended, Personal Commentary)

Well, well, well…what do we have here? The DCU (DC Comics Universe), in their attempt to convince us all that they have a plan and allegedly a good one, released a full schedule of movies that are coming to theaters through 2020. The list is robust and new and…well, we’ll let you decide. Hang with us as we share our thoughts on the new info on coming attractions.

So WB announced there’s going to be a new Green Lantern movie released for 2020. I know what y’all are thinking. “Bruh don’t you remember what happened last time we went this route? Have we forgotten Reynolds gate? Have we?!?!”

I get it but lemme finish this ain’t all bad. We got the technology people, we got the resources. WE can do this. We can make the Green Lantern smarter, stronger, faster, better than before. This is our time and that’s not just coming from someone thats saying this cause he has a Green Lantern tattoo and really needs this new incarnation to be better than the last so he can show it in public again. We got some options here folks and I’ma present them to you as soon as y’all done laughing about the previous sentence… I’ll wait.

It’s going to be a brand new day people *Que that Nina Simone*. In six years time we going to be back for the first time. There haven’t been any announcements for actors or if Ryan Reynolds (I hate it had to be you) will return but I think its safe to say we are looking at a fresh start for the Emerald Crusader. This is what we need tho! Now I’m sorry it didn’t work out for you Hal Jordan. You had your shot and it got fucking swatted to Omicron Persei 8.

Let’s say that Jordan is out, in this case lets talk about replacements. I’m not a big Guy fan. He was presented as the bad boy’s bad boy and anti-Hal. The Guy Gardner of today tho? I fux with him. However, I don’t need to see him on the big screen yet. I wouldn’t be opposed to seeing Kyle Rayner or Simon Baz in the follow up film to the reboot as two new recruits also they’re people of color (Baz is Lebanese-American & Rayner is of Latin decent). Y’all know it might be time for the gawd of head shot kills John Stewart to take center stage. We wanted this since he was put on Justice League animated series. We wanted this since his military background was added to his profile making him the all time leading scorer for Call of Duty Modern Warfare in real time. We wanted this for the longest. This is the Green Lantern we want!

If we get John Stewart up in the movies as well we could also get him meeting his future wife, instructor and love of his life. The Green Lantern Recruit Legend Katma-Tui. Don’t even get me started on how boss Katma is tho… Y’all ain’t even ready for the resume Katma comes to the interview with.

If we get Katma we also get a look into how she came to be Green Lantern for Korugar which involves Sinestro’s story. We also need more female & alien presence in the film. It was lacking in the previous incarnation. Katma is perfect for this cause she is also in the field, she a seasoned vet plus one of the best to ever do it. Can’t you just see their relationship coming to fruition on the big screen?

Now let’s cut to the chase. If this movie isn’t setting up for the Sinestro Corps War then murder me. Murder me man!. Sinestro Corps war is basically the DC comics version of Star Wars. This is possible to have the stage set up for by the second or third movie. Sinestro has to be the main villain cause who else is killing the game like Thaal until Atrocitus shows up.

We must protect this reboot at all costs and what better way to do that then with the work Geoff Johns has already put in place? This is what the fuck we been waiting for. What Geoff Johns placed into play for 9 years man. How you going to deny this. As long as we get to see the sniper battle between Bedoovan and John Stewart tho? YA NERD IS GOOD!

There are a lot of things that can be corrected this go around with the Green Lantern movie. Especially showcasing more of the alien lanterns. Lets see some of the other cultures out there man. Lets see our folk learning how trivial the shit we be doing on Earth is in the grand scheme of things. That is where the original movie fell flat for me. This time around lets make sure as many folk from corps as possible shine.
