Music Drama ‘Rock is a Lady’s Modesty’ Takes the Main Stage on April 3 for HIDIVE’s Spring Season

Music will fill the air this spring for anime fans following today’s news that AMC Network’s HIDIVE has added the new series Rock is a Lady’s Modesty to its simulcast slate for the Spring 2025 season. This coming-of-age drama featuring intense rock music is based on the manga series written and illustrated by Hiroshi Fukuda and will stream exclusively on HIDIVE. As part of today’s announcement, HIDIVE debuted the official English subtitled trailer for the upcoming show. Rock is a Lady’s Modesty will premiere on April 3.

“We’re excited to add Rock is a Lady’s Modesty to our exclusive simulcast line-up for Spring 2025,” said John Ledford, President of HIDIVE. “This new series is sure to ‘rock’ audiences with both its music and coming-of-age storyline. Anime fans will not want to miss it!”

At an elite all-girls’ academy where refined young ladies gather, Lilisa Suzunomiya, now the daughter of a real estate tycoon after her mother remarried, is forced to abandon her guitar and rock music to fit in. However, her passion is reignited by sounds from the old school building, where she meets a skilled drummer who shares her love for rock. Together, they embrace their inner rockstars, elegantly clashing and shouting their way through the academy in this captivating tale of grace and rebellion.

Rock is a Lady’s Modesty is an adaptation of the seinen manga series created by Hiroshi Fukuda and published by Hakusensha in Young Animal beginning in October 2022 and now encompassing 6 volumes. The series is directed by Shinya Watada together with writing by Shogo Yasukawa, character design by Risa Miyadani and production by BN Pictures. The cast of Rock is a Lady’s Modesty stars Akira Sekine as Lilisa Suzunomiya and Miyuri Shimabukuro as Otoha Kurogane.

Look, I come to HIDIVE for the hidden gems for my anime watching curation–and I love to watch the girlies in bands and on the idol stage (and YET I won’t blame you if you had to pause watching OshiNoKo, fam). This is more of a teaser than trailer, but I won’t ‘apples to oranges’ you. I love manga and anime exploring girlhood, and this anime adaptation, coming in with a sick guitar rift, grabbed me from the first twenty or so seconds in with its tonal shift of a teenage girl breaking out and choosing to be the person she’s kept under wraps.

Big Classic Shojo Looks follow the one of the main characters with light, piano music until the bass line and the sound of drums burst on the scene with these girls freer than a bird and pouring their all in their instruments–what is this? Shut up and give me fourteen of whatever this is, please and thank you. The juxtaposition of these proper young ladies rocking out and falling back into their modest, demure persona is off putting, hilarious and helps set the stage for a Spring Anime Season debut that’s sure to rock my world. (If you’re still reading, I couldn’t help it.)

I’m told that Rock is a Lady’s Modesty is set to be a “captivating tale of grace and rebellion.” The last image in the trailer we see is of a red rose, knocked over in its vase with the worlds: “Pure, Violent, and Beautiful” on the screen leaving viewers to question just how out of the box and coming-of-age-heavy vibes this anime be dropping. Tune back in when April begins!
