It’s a good time to be a Star Wars fan. The first teaser trailer for the long awaited seventh installment, The Force Awakens, debuted online and in theaters Friday. To say that it gave us plenty of what we needed to see would be putting it mildly. We get a new model of droid resembling what looks like a giant trackball. There’s also the Millennium Falcon in rare form in what looks like a dogfight (not for nothing, but I wouldn’t be the one to start shit with the ship that made the Kessel Run in 12 parsecs) over Tattooine with TIE fighters in hot pursuit. The downside is that Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher all seem to be absent from our first official peek at the next chapter of the Star Wars saga. The big highlight that makes up for it, however, is the scene of a mysterious figure assumed to be a Sith lord wielding a never-before-seen type of lightsaber with a special light crossguard.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens, a JJ Abrams film (sans lens flare) also starring Adam Driver, Lupita Nyong’o and Gwendolyn Christie, comes to theaters December 19, 2015.
