2025 is moving along after an incredibly long Winter. *sigh* I’m patiently waiting for the long-awaited “FROG” episode of The Apothecary Diaries as a bunch of faves this season are winding done with finales. Spring is finally in the air, and the Spring 2025 anime has a plethora of new series to fill our streaming plates as we start off the season before summer.
From the return of ONE PIECE to new outings with baseball lovers, witches, and heroes of all walks of life, here’s a quick sampling of what to expect from the highly anticipated series and returns making their way to our television screens this April!
Kowloon Generic Romance
Studio: Arvo Animation
Premiere Date: April 5, 2025 on Crunchyroll
Premise: Real estate agents Reiko Kujirai and Hajime Kudo work in the nostalgic Kowloon Walled City. As they spend more time together, Reiko’s feelings for Hajime grow. But when she finds a photo of him and his former fiancée, she’s shocked to see the woman looks exactly like her. Reiko then realizes a chilling truth: she has no memory of her past.
What to Expect: So folks who follow the site already know that I’m about that life when it comes to the manga that this anime is adapted from. Kowloon Generic Romance manga series that is hard to describe as it is a genre blurring work. It is a romance within a dystopian story with a sort of slice of life approach with mystery and intrigue. Wait, let me try this again based on the real life setting of the Kowloon Walled City, is a story about real estate agent Reiko Kujirai and her daily adventures. She loves the city with all her heart, and every day brings her a feeling of nostalgia. Taking a spot on my most anticipated anime series of 2025, I have a feeling this one will leave us in awe–after it throws us all for a loop, of course!

The Too-Perfect Saint: Tossed Aside by My Fiancé and Sold to Another Kingdom

Saints fight to protect humankind from monsters, and Philia underwent rigorous education and training to earn her title. After her fiancé, Julius, breaks off their engagement, Philia is sold to the kingdom of Parnacorta for resources. Will her homeland survive without her?!?
What to Expect: My fellow light novel fans…we got another one! I’m game for the saint or villainess or side character that finds herself unappreciated, unloved and moved away to another life, subgenre in manga and anime adaptations. I really blew through the first four volumes of the manga adaptation last month when I learned we’d be getting an anime for this. Be prepared for a complicated family that will keep surprising you, a wholesome coming of age story for Philia, the saint and some pretty interesting diplomatic lessons at play between these fictional countries!

My Hero Academia: Vigilantes
Studio: Bones Film

Everything changes for Koichi when he and Pop☆Step are saved by the vigilante Knuckleduster and get recruited to become vigilantes themselves
What to Expect: As I wrote in my trailer reaction: My Hero Academia: Vigilantes is an intriguing title as it functions as both a spin-off and a prequel to the fan fave MHA and carries a lot of heart and understanding of the original world that we came to love from the original series!

Food for the Soul
Studio: (P.A. Works)

Premise: This is an original animation of the daily lives of five new undergrad college girls. They love delicious food, want to have lots of fun together, study hard, and enjoy their college life to the fullest! This is a heartwarming comedy in which the characters eat, laugh, and deepen their friendships
What to Expect: Friendship is magic, and food is the way to connect us all in this super cute, slice of life offering about college girls. There’s a weird little mascot that’s hanging around too. Iyashikei anime alert? That’s all I got, I will check it out!
GUILTY GEAR STRIVE: DUAL RULERS
Studio: (SANZIGEN)
Premiere Date: April 5, 2025 on Crunchyroll
Premise: Sin Kiske, the forbidden child of a human and a magically crafted biological weapon called a Gear, lives in a world where magic has replaced science, and scars from the Gear rebellion remain. Attending his parents’ taboo-breaking wedding, he encounters a mysterious girl with deep hatred for Gears, and their fateful meeting threatens to upend the world once again.
What to Expect: Look, I vaguely remember the Guilty Gear games in the earlier 2000’s. They were highly stylized, fighting games that absolutely had that anime “look” to them–now there’s an anime. I can’t say that I know and even remember much guilty-gear lore (BRIDGET, BRIDGET, BRIDGET!) however, I am happy there’s another fandom out there rejoicing. I’ll coast off that energy and excitement with my own curiosity and watch it this season.
Anne Shirley
Studio: (The Answerstudio)
Premiere Date: April 5 2025 on Crunchyroll
Premise: On the beautiful Prince Edward Island in Canada, an orphan named Anne Shirley is mistakenly sent to Green Gables, the home of Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert. They choose to adopt her anyway, as Anne finds friendship, love, and happiness in her new home. Come along for the story of a purehearted and imaginative girl growing up, leaving for college, and returning home a changed woman.
What to Expect: Bring back the (manga and) anime adaptations of classic literature! The overall adaptations of beloved series Anne of Green Gables has proved to bring about some interesting takes on the titular character. (Anne with an E should have got another season. Netflix, this is on you!) I am always going to have a soft spot for the animated versions of Anne’s story from the shores of Japan. I’d recommend for lovers of those who feel there needs to a serious revival of anime adapted from classic western literature, female character lead anime series, series that may lead towards a Shojo tone in narrative.
ONE PIECE | Egghead Part-2
Studio: (Toei Animation)
Premiere Date: April 5, 2025 on Crunchyroll
Premise: After the Raid on Onigashima and destruction of the Lulusia Kingdom, the Straw Hat Pirates arrive at the mysterious Egghead Island. Surrounded by his futuristic technology, they meet the island’s resident genius, Dr. Vegapunk. His research has caught the attention of the World Government, who soon sends CP0 to pay him a visit. Will Luffy and his crew make it out unscathed?
What to Expect: Returning From Hiatus, BABY!!!!!!!! I am happy to rejoice with you as long as you don’t ask WHERE I am in my ONE PIECE Rewatch. What to look forward to? Kumachi’s backstory? Another Luffy fight to break the internet?
Catch Me at the Ballpark!
Studio: (EMT Squared)
Premiere Date: April 1, 2025 on Crunchyroll
Premise: To escape his tiring job, weary Murata finds escape at a nearby baseball stadium. While the games are thrilling, it’s Ruriko, the gyaru as cold as the beer she serves but secretly a sweetheart, who keeps him coming back. As her first regular, Murata discovers the warmth behind her frosty demeanor, and their hilarious, heartwarming encounters light up the ballpark and maybe even their hearts.
What to Expect: Are you feeling the slice of life vibes here? Well, I am, and beyond loving baseball, I feel the love and escapism behind surviving the grind of life. Catch me outside Catch me catching feels and feeling seen tuning in to watch this series with the simplest premise but perhaps the biggest catch this season!
To Be Hero X
Studio: (J.C.STAFF (Azumanga Daioh, Revolutionary Girl Utena, Toradora!)
Premiere Date: April 5, 2025 on Crunchyroll
Premise: A world where outstanding heroes are applauded. Here, “trust” creates superheroes. If people believe “he can fly,” he will gain the ability to fly. Conversely, even if a hero has special powers, if he loses trust, he will also lose his powers. Trust is collected as data, and the ranking of heroes changes depending on the value. Once every two years, the top heroes gather to compete in a hero tournament. Their performance there updates their “trust value,” and the ranking is reconstructed. The absolute hero who stands at the top of the rankings, people call him “X”…
What to Expect: I don’t need to know what’s going on to understand that I want to watch this one, for sure. The voice cast is stacked, the visuals are killer with both 2D/3D animations. My favorite comment on dubbed second trailer on Youtube summing up the appeal: “1 tablespoon of spider-verse, 2 cups of Arcane, and 3 teaspoons of post Wano One Piece.” I do understand that this is a long time coming with fans of the series with an already established fan base that is looking forward to more.
The Beginning After the End
Studio: (studio A-CAT)
Premiere Date: April 2, 2025 on Crunchyroll
Premise: After a mysterious death, King Grey is reborn as Arthur Leywin on the magical continent of Dicathen. Although he enters his second life as a baby, his previous wisdom remains. He begins to master magic and forge his own path as the years go by, seeking to correct the mistakes of his past life
What to Expect: The Beginning After the End seems to set the scene for the series with a slower paced, emotionally building story about starting over and being blessed with a newer, more whole start. This first episode sheds light on King Grey, young Arthur’s previous life, and hints what was missing from his upbringing while marveling at this young man’s current and new life. See more of my review of Episode one here!
Can a Boy-Girl Friendship Survive?
Studio: (J.C.STAFF)
Premiere Date: April 4, 2025 on Crunchyroll
Premise: Childhood BFFs Himari and Yu’s vow of friendship hits turbulence when Yu reunites with his first crush in high school. Himari, who’s never known the fuzzy warmth of a crush, now must confront her feelings. Their shared dreams and peaceful days as a twosome gardening club are tested in this tale of love, flowers, and growing pains!
What to Expect: I’m not hating the surplus of rom-com type anime this season. Quite the opposite! I enjoy the school life rom com sub-genre of anime involving teenagers and their wild, wild lives. We’re received just a teaser for this yet young love is always in season when the cherry blossoms are in bloom!
