So we all know that Sonic Mania is amazing. It’s a beautiful display from a team that absolutely studied the old school Sonic games and brought it to a new audience. You know that already though. This is about something else that was made to go along with the game. Sonic Mania Adventures is a series of animated shorts that will be released on Sonic Team’s Official YouTube channel for FREE. Directed by Tyson Hesse, who also works on the Sonic comic books, Sonic Mania Adventures not only captures the spirit of the games but also brings classic Sonic into the land of animation once again. Set directly after the story of Sonic Mania and Sonic Forces, classic Sonic is back in his home universe! The first short is available.

The amazing thing about this short is how much the characters are brought to life while telling a complete story with no dialogue in about three minutes. Do you understand how beautiful that is? An animated short about iconic characters that gets the characters right with nothing but facial expressions, subtle nuances, and excellent music by Tee Lopes who also composed the Sonic Mania soundtrack. A highlight for me is Sonic’s face after he reaches the capsule to set the animal’s free. Full of classic Sonic goodness.

With THREE MINUTES this team along with others who worked on it put together something special that captures Sonic to a tee. With four more episodes to come and more characters to introduce, we can’t wait to see what happens next.
